** ''--[JDuprez]'': I don't think so. Sure Java and Patterns stuff is not completely foreign to people interested in jspWiki usage and development, but numerous sites, including Wikis, already exist, and are more closely updated and documented, and draw more audience. Better link to them from some bridge page, or include interwiki links. As an example, I stumbled on page NullPointerException, which contains lots of inaccuracies (though by the time you read it may have been corrected). Sure I or more knowledgeable people may edit it to correct those errors, but why bother since this topic is hardly a concern for jspWiki usage...
*** When I think about it, I guess the page was indeed created by a user who wanted to fill the target of unwanted links created as reporting any occurence of NullPointerException. Hence probably, the fuziness of the contents, directed at MereMortals stumbling on NPEs in jspWiki logs :o)

Actually I eventually edited this page to what I think would benefit to a MereMortal at least...''

Isn't there some techniques to make spamming edits more difficult ? Like, adding a field in the edit form requiring to enter text melted in a blended image, or asking today's date, or whatever. Nothing that actually prevent spamming, but at least renders it harder, without hampering too much well-intended edits.

''Because JSPWiki is largely used within organizations, and rarely outside firewalls, captchas are quite difficult to do effectively. In addition, as far as I can tell, all spammers on jspwiki.org are actually human beings (working on minimum wage), who add spam manually. Captchas and other things are directed against bots. --JanneJalkanen''
! Why not require login to edit pages on this site?
Granted, this will not prevent human spammers, but will just render their work a bit more painful.
OK it's not so difficult to create a new account each time, but it's one more hassle to the mischieves. Advertisement Spam is ruled by economics: it's a matter of how cheap it is to spam sites/emails compared to how much it gives back. The return on investment is probably already very low on this site, where most of the audience is already fairly familiar with internet's gems and traps. Making spam is little less cheap may ruin advertisement spam economic balance.
All that based on the assumption that well-intended visitors will not find it too much of a hassle to login once a day (this is a fairly common practice on forum boards, mailing lists, and even usenet).
As a collateral advantage, forcing login to edit will make edits less anonymous, which I deem is a good thing (and the well-intended may still register under a fake name to post anonymously).
