Hi,

I recently updated JSPWiki (from 2.4.16 I think) to the latest stable release (2.4.56).

I made a clean install (moved the old webapps/JSPWiki directory away)

Then I reconfigured jspwiki.properties (from the default one).

jspwiki.workDir = /private/tmp/ jspwiki.xmlGroupDatabaseFile = /usr/local/JSPWiki-conf/groupdatabase.xml (I have copied the default group file there) jspwiki.xmlUserDatabaseFile = /usr/local/JSPWiki-conf/userdatabase.xml

When I select NewGroup, I get this : JSPWiki has detected an error

Error Message An unknown exception java.lang.NullPointerException was caught by Error.jsp. Exception java.lang.NullPointerException Place where detected org.apache.jsp.templates.default_.NewGroupContent_jsp._jspService(), line 128

With the previous version I think creating group was working (I did not setup xmlGroupDatabaseFile then and groups where stored in Group pages). I created groups (with a page Groupac_staff). But ACL with group it did not work :

PAGE Goupac_staff :

[{ALLOW edit BrunoLEGAY}]
[{ALLOW view BrunoLEGAY, JeanGRAVELINE}]
[{SET members='BrunoLEGAY,JeanGRAVELINE'}]

PAGE testGroupAccess ;

[{ALLOW view Goupac_staff}]
[{ALLOW edit BrunoLEGAY}]

User BrunoLEGAY (authenticated) can view and edit that page User JeanGRAVELINE (authenticated) gets trying yo viw the page :

"Forbidden

Sorry, but you are not allowed to do that.

Usually we block access to something because you do not have the correct privileges (e.g., read, edit, comment) for the page you are looking for. In this particular case, it is likely that you are not listed in the page’s access control list or that your privileges aren’t high enough (you want to edit, but ACL only allows ‘read’).

It is also possible that JSPWiki cannot find its security policy, or that the policy is not configured correctly. Either of these cases would cause JSPWiki to block access, too.

Better luck next time."

About putting ACL in bug reports#

Sorry about including the ACL in this bug report. I realized and will be more carefull next time. Thank you Janne for fixing it :-)

PS : Do you think it would be a good idea to put a note in the SubmitBugReport page about this ?

About Null Pointer Exception#

I did another install of v2.4.56 and I can now create groups :-)

About the ACL and Group#

I still have a problem with the ACL and groups

Should I open a new bug report to make things clearer and easier to follow ? What can I do to help (I do not have much experience with Java), files to send you ?

I actually added a note to SubmitBugReport. It might be a good idea to open a separate issue on this, so if you don't mind... :-)

Hi Janne

Thank you for your great work :-)

I did anther test tonight before logging a new bug and it seems to work now. Not sure what happened. So I guess you can close this one. Sorry for the noise.
