I use FreeMind extensively to create mindmaps of ideas. Right now I have to generate PNGs and attach to wiki or sometimes (for deeper mindmaps) generate HTML and link it from the wiki.

However it would be great to have a JSPWiki plugin for freemind, which would enable me to view the mind maps using flash. This way I could attach the mindmap to a wiki page, refer to it from the page using the plugin and view the mind map in a completely interactive mode.

An enhancement to the plugin would be to launch freemind using JNLP on the client machine and having save the mind map as an attachment to the wiki page.

----

There is already a similar plugin, though much more limited then Freemind, to draw mindmaps: [MindMapGraphPlugin]

----

I got the first half of this idea implemented; you can use the [FreeMindPlugin] to browse, zoom, fold/unfold, print, etc. an attached mindmap file (.mm) created by FreeMind.

As for the second half - it can be done, but not in the way suggested above. First, the JWS launching part: The following is a quote from the FreeMind [FAQ|http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Asked_Questions]
;:Well, it's not that easy. Joerg Mueller succeeded in doing just that and has sent his source code to Daniel Polansky, who did not succeed in getting it running; he did not consider that a high priority. What is important is that Microsoft Windows users have a convenient installer, and the users of the other operating systems are already used to not so convenient methods; the installation is pretty straightforward anyway.

So JWS launching was done before. Second, saving the mindmap as an attachment to the wiki page. I think this can be implemented not as an extension to the JSPWiki [FreeMindPlugin], but as a [FreeMind Plugin|http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Plugins]. FreeMind (the "max" version) comes with plugins that allow you to save a mind map as a SVG or as a PDF; I believe it would be simple to create one that saves the mindmap as a JSPWiki attachment. This plugin could then be bundled together with the JWS version and we would have the full circle Wiki->FreeMind->Wiki.

What about some tool, maybe based on Freemind or/and JSP-Wiki, that parses through the WikiPages and creates a ConceptMap (=Net) or Mindmap (=Tree) based on the Links in the Pages. This could then be used as SiteMap and also to quickly create some empty, but already related pages.

;: Hi Manuel, thank you for the links. Check the [WikiMap] plugin. It is seriously cool. I am looking into ways of doing something similar with the FreeMindPlugin as well, maybe taking input from TasksPlugin. -- [Nascif Abousalh-Neto], 28-Jul-2006
