Known Issue: WikiWizard generates JavaScript error on Windows MSIE#

In validating the HTML for WikiWizard.jsp, MSIE is now having problems running the JavaScript properly. Until we find a good solution, you can temporarily correct this by editing your WikiWizard.jsp file:

Change:

<script>
   document.write('</applet>');
</script>

To:

</applet>

We are currently looking into a more permanent solution by running some code server-side which is currently running client-side. We will post when we have more information.

If you get an

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.wikiwizard.FlashSplash

Change

"archive='applets/wikiwizard.jar'"

To:

"archive='./applets/wikiwizard.jar'"
--Marco Paleani

Other Known Issues#

  • Creating a new page and immediately using attach file menu will not work. Workaround: Save new page first and edit again.
  • Embedded wiki markup within other wiki markup does not highlight.
  • If wikiwizard starts and the first line is a heading, this will not be displayed in the toolbar.

Bug: Cannot insert a pipe-symbol in a table.#

A pipe symbol is : | and should be represented by {{{ | }}} in the wikitext.

Trouble:#

I have followed the install instructions for the WikiWizard. I cannot get this plugin to load. I have loaded it successfully on other JSPWiki's. I have JSPWiki 2.3.100-alpha currently. I have installed the AppletPlugin. I have Unzipped the WikiWizard into the %CATALINA_HOME%/webapps/JSPWiki directory. I noticed on the web page that I loaded this on, there is an Editor selection area in the LeftMenu. Perhaps this is a plugin that I do not have. Note, wikiwizard-1.0.zip is the file I have attempted to load.

I noticed that in the EditorProvider page, there is mention of /WEB_INF/lib/ini/jspwiki_module.xml. This file is not present in my installation. Perhaps this is the cause.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

--ewright

Do you use the default template or a custome one? If you don't use the default template you have to copy the templates/default/editors/WikiWizard.jsp into your template/yourtemplate/editors directory. I forgot to document this.

In the current alpha there is no selection area. But there is work in progress to change this. You don't need a ini/jspwiki_module.xml in your WEB-INF directory. Every Provider has a ini/jspwiki_module.xml included in it's jar file. In the new EditorProviderInterface all the ini/jspwiki_module.xml files provided with the different jars are read out.

I do use the default editor. Double checked to see if WikiWizard.jsp was in the default template directory and it was. I think that the big thing here is the fact that when editting a page, it does not allow me to choose an editor as in your sandbox. I appreciate the insight, still cannot get this wizard up and running.

I think I am going to try and do a reinstall of everything and see if just all the defaults work. Hate to do this as I have a handful of the plug ins working already, but this may be the way to go.

--ewright

For what it's worth, I struggled through the same issue. Installed the 2.4 beta vsn of JSPWiki - happy to say the applet comes up just fine now.

I'm having some trouble with Wiki Wizard on Mac Safari 2.0.3. The editor works sporadically. Sometimes I can make changes and sometimes my browser crashes. Is there anyway I can disable the wizard for some users?

--David Lelong, 05-May-2006

David, I just attached a JSPWiki patch to this page which you should be able to use to let users choose which editor they wish to use. I am waiting on Janne to see if he will include this into the main distro or not. I tried emailing you with the patch, but I got a permanent bounce response from yahoo.

--ChuckSmith, 05-May-2006

Chuck, I saw your note. Thanks for the reply. My Yahoo email address has changed to drlelon at yahoo dot com. Could you let me know how to apply this patch?

--David Lelong, 06-May-2006

David, if you are using Eclipse, go into your JSPWiki codebase, right-click, go to Team, then click on Apply Patch.

--ChuckSmith, 08-May-2006

Update: The patch has now been put into the main distro. You should have no more problems now.

I made this comment elsewhere, but maybe this is a better place for it -- Am I nuts or does WikiWizard not work with Brushed templates?

--Adam Ehven, 18-Jul-2006

I do not believe you are nuts. I'm however currently away from my office until the middle of August, and I will look into the problem when I return.

--ChuckSmith, 25-Jul-2006

BrushedTemplate now works happily with WikiWizard. Download v2.4.x (18 Aug 06)

Some limitations I have seen so far. I wonder if these can be solved:

  • WikiWizard refershed its text (so your changes are lost) when selecting another tab in the editor (eg help tab)
  • I get a Undefined-value javascript err (line 17?) when trying to upload attachments via WikiWizard ( tried in OS-X/Safari - doesnt work)
  • Often FireFox gets completely locked up.

-- DF, 18 Aug 06

Hi Dirk,

  • we did some adjustments to the template so that those changes are not lost any longer, when you switch the tabs. You can try it out on this page since WikiWizard is now enabled on this site. Maybee they are not in your Brushed-Template?
  • several users have reported problems with WikiWizard and Mac. We have to work on that in Version 1.1. We got a Mac-Mini here and we will use it more frequently now to test Wikiwizard.
  • What i have seen is that sometimes WikiWizard stops loading after 5%. Workaround: If you hit the refresh button it loads without any problems.

Christophe,

there seems to be an error in WikiWizard.jsp: the directive language="java" must be removed from line 3 because it is already defined on line 2, Weblogic throws an exception on this. I changed line 3 into : <%@ page import="java.io.Serializable"%> and then it works.

--MP

Thanks Marc, WikiWizard is now included with JSPWiki 2.4.41-cvs, fixed it in 2.4.42-cvs :)

JSPWiki 2.4.53 (release) include Wiki Wizard

I found it can not process Chinese char correctly,:(

for example, set bold or italic ,Chinese char become unknown char

--AnonymousCoward, 12-Sep-2006

Thanks for the notification. We have confirmed your report and it looks like the issue is complicated and will be looking to correct this bug in a future version of WikiWizard.

JSPWiki 2.4.53 (release) including Wiki Wizard

Everything works great except that I cannot preview pages and do a few other things. I get a Javascript error:

jserror.jpg

I noticed that I get the same error when I use WikiWizard on this page. My browser is IE 6.0 and my Java plugin is 1.5. Also, I am using the default template.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

--Avinash Gupta, 12-Sep-2006

I have just posted a quick fix at the top of the page.

--Chuck Smith

Please note: If you are using the brushed template, the WikiWizard.jsp in the brushed/editors directory may not have the fix. I'm running the JSPWiki 2.4.40 beta version and using the brushed template. I had the same problems mentioned above. I found a difference between the default/editors/WikiWizard.jsp and the brushed/editors/WikiWizard.jsp. Replacing the brushed WikiWizard.jsp with the default file resolved the issue.

I have users that do not have full admin rights on their windows XP desktops. When they try and run Wiki Wizard they are seeing the following error in the Desktop Java console......

WikiWizardDiscussion/wikiwizardError.gif(info)

Any ideas on how I could change the applet install location to somewhere where the users have write access?

Or any other ideas greatly appreciated.

--DanB, 19-Dec-2008

Hi guys,

I am unable to get this going. My edit window is blank except for a page icon up the TLH corner with a red X in it (with mentions of 'java console' in the context menu).

Mac OS X 10.5.8, Firefox 3.5.2, Tomcat 5.5.27, JSPWiki 2.8.2.

It looks rather cool. Any ideas of what I need to do to make it work? -- Brooke, 5th Sept 2009

Win7 64-Bit, IE8, Sun Java Runtime Environment 6.0.180 (x64)

While editting a page the wikiwizard-editor only shows 3 lines. The window is very short. The cause is the browser (IE8). Using compatibility mode everything works fine. Do you have another answer to my problem? Is there a 64-bit-version of the wikiwizard?
